Graduation (Commencement) – Saturday, May 27 – UPDATED TIME!

  • Commencement is Saturday, May 27 at 9:00 a.m. at the U.N.O. Baxter Arena
  • We are performing: Les Miserables, Disney Jazz Medley, Titanic, Wicked, MNHS School Song, The Star Spangled Banner, and Pomp and Circumstance.  Winds – if you do not have each piece of music, please double with someone who does have the part.
  • Orchestra needs to be ready to play by 8:30 a.m., so we will need to leave MNHS by 7:30 a.m. (arrive by 7:00 a.m.) to leave enough travel and set-up time.  We will load the buses after the ceremony and should return to MNHS by 11:00 a.m.
  • Dress is concert black – all black for ladies (uniforms for orchestra strings), white shirt, tie, black pants for men – black dress socks and black dress shoes for all.
  • You will need to bring your instrument and music AND a folding stand.
  • We will travel to the Baxter Arena by school bus.  If you do not wish to return to Millard North High School on the bus, I must have a written note from your parents by Friday, May 19.  Parking can be difficult, so riding the bus is preferred.
  • This is a REQUIRED performance for EVERYONE enrolled in orchestra/IB orchestra. Commencement is a BIG DEAL – our seniors, the school board, Dr. Sutfin (MPS Superintendent) and the taxpayers are there.  You need to be in top form – both in performance and behavior. This will be our most attended performance of the year.  It is imperative to make a good impression.  If you don’t play at commencement, you will forfeit your grade.
  • Winds and percussion – thank you for playing!  Our rehearsal schedule is mostly during 1st /2nd hour.
  • We will need 5-6 adult chaperones!  Please contact Mrs. M. if you are available to chaperone!

Summer Opportunities – Summer offers many concerts, lessons, chamber music, camps, and volunteer opportunities.  One of them is volunteering with our Millard Summer Orchestra Camp July 10-14.  If students are available and interested, please contact Mrs. M ASAP!  We need to know your T-shirt size.  This opportunity is also available to seniors/alumni!!   Otherwise, keep your string skills sharp this summer so we can hit the ground running in August!  Included in these are the UNL Strings Festival and the opportunity to teach private lessons.
